HOW 3D PRINTERS CAN HELP MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

3d printer is the latest invention by technological giants of twentieth century.3d printer involves complex reproduction of solid objects by imaging   two dimensional objects. The object can be of any shape. The reproduction of objects by 3d printers and diy 3d printers is basically additive process. The word additive is emphasized as it involves adding layers of material to a simple design. Unlike the general process where solid objects are cut and grind, importance is laid to adding consecutive layers in 3d printing. Its use is found in automobile industry and manufacturing industry.

Advent of 3d diy printers is a major attraction of century. 3d printer was made by chuck Hall. This is a boon for industries as it is easy for people to envisage a product. A simple sketch is converted into 3d which makes imagination of product into reality. General industries where 3d printers and DIY printers are used are fashion, automobile, aerospace, medical research, biotech, information technology and geographic systems among many others. Although Charles Hull was inventor of 3d printers but the first reference of 3d printers is found in works of Hideo Kodama of Nagoya Municipal Industrial Research Institute. Many DIYs find this printer very interesting. RepRap is one of the open source license program which aims to bring the code of 3d printers into public. It’s one of the longest running open source desktop projects whose aim is to make 3d printers more accessible to people. With open sources running frantically to improve 3d printers,   many variants of 3d printers are available in market. Latest technology has made it possible to make use of 3d printers for commercial and domestic purpose.

Since open source favors hyper customization, 3d printers have many variants which results in solving community problems. Deeper interests in this technology have led to reduction of cost too.3d printers today come in reasonable price. Additive technology has rapidly reduced time for prototyping .Unlike subtractive a method where the cost and time for prototyping is high additive technology has many advantages.3d printing is intended for mass production.  More nozzles and suitable filament are added to machine. Multi head and multi material is one way to reduce the cost and time of manufacturing. Today 3d printers have found its way into homes and for research use. With growing technology several improvements will made in 3d printing which will make 3d print more accessible for general public.
